A Message from Principal Katie Lawson

I am honored and incredibly excited to welcome you to Mountain Peak Elementary. As we bring the Heritage and Summit View communities together, I feel privileged to lead this charge into our first year as one united family. Combining the strengths, traditions, and heart of both schools into Mountain Peak is a journey I am thrilled to take alongside all of you.
My Journey & Philosophy
My educational journey began in the classroom, teaching second- and third-grade students, including a combo class of high-achieving and gifted learners. Over the years, I have served as an MTSS/Intervention Strategist, Gifted/Talented Coordinator, Student Assessment Coordinator, new teacher mentor, and assistant principal. I’ve also worked closely with center-based special education programs and supported students with a wide range of behavioral needs.
While these experiences have shaped my leadership, the relationships I’ve built have impacted me the most. I believe school should be a place where every student, staff, and parent feels safe, heard, and seen. At Mountain Peak, I am committed to ensuring that learning is joyful. When educators feel supported and valued, that joy ripples outward to our students.
Life in Highlands Ranch
My husband, Adam, and I live right here in Highlands Ranch with our two daughters, Maggie and Emmi. This year is a big one for us, as Maggie is starting her first year of college and Emmi is a senior at Highlands Ranch High School. As a family, we love exploring National Parks, playing music, "jeeping" in the mountains, and finding great food to enjoy! We love this community and the deep sense of connection it offers.
Looking Ahead
You will often find me in the hallways, visiting classrooms, helping at recess, or facilitating restorative conversations. Being part of this new chapter for Mountain Peak Elementary is one of the great privileges of my career. I am proud to lead alongside our amazing team and am eager to see the heights our students will reach together.
As we begin this inaugural year, my door is always open. Please feel free to reach out with questions, ideas, or just to introduce yourself. I am so excited for our future!
Warmly,
Katie Lawson
Principal, Mountain Peak Elementary
