Gifted & Talented

Gifted identification in Colorado follows a comprehensive process that looks at the whole child.

Students may be identified based on:

• Academic performance
• Assessment data
• Classroom observations
• Demonstrated strengths or potential

This process is guided by state requirements under the Exceptional Children’s Educational Act (ECEA) to ensure equitable and consistent identification practices. If you believe your student may have advanced learning needs, you are encouraged to reach out to us to begin a conversation.

Students who are identified as gifted have an Advanced Learning Plan (ALP).

The ALP:

• Outlines each student’s strengths, goals, and areas for growth
• Guides instruction and support
• Is developed collaboratively with teachers, families, and students
• Is reviewed and updated regularly

Gifted programming may include a combination of approaches based on student needs, such as:

• Enrichment (deeper exploration of content)
• Differentiation within the classroom
• Flexible grouping with academic peers
• Opportunities for independent or project-based learning

Effective programming is designed to support both academic growth and the development of skills like creativity, problem-solving, and self-advocacy.

Families are an important part of the G&T process.

We encourage families to:

• Stay connected with classroom teachers and G&T staff
• Participate in ALP development and review
• Share insights about their child’s strengths and needs
