A New Chapter for Our Community
About Our Transition
Mountain Peak Elementary was established in December 2025 when the Douglas County School District Board of Education approved the consolidation of Heritage Elementary and Summit View Elementary. Beginning in Fall 2026, students and staff will come together at the Summit View campus in Highlands Ranch to form one unified school community. This transition is designed to preserve what families value most while expanding opportunities for students.
What families can expect:
- Consistent, high-quality instruction and student support
- Expanded specials programming, including STEM and instrumental music
- Strong special education, ELD, and gifted programming
- Continued access to academic intervention and mental health resources
- Expanded preschool programming
- Before- and after-school care (BASE)

Mountain Peak Elementary will be led by Principal Katie Lawson, a relationship-centered leader focused on well-being, connection, and creating a supportive school culture for all.

Mountain Peak Elementary will open in fall 2026, combining Heritage and Summit View Elementary into one school with expanded programming, temporary transportation options, and updated boundary assignments.

The SAC involves families in school improvement and makes recommendations to leadership.

Colorado Measures of Academic Success (CMAS) is the main test used to assess the progress of our students and our school.
